Archaeologist / Heritage and Cataloguing Manager

Duties

• Site Consultation: Consult on the identification and evaluation of potential heritage sites within construction project areas, ensuring compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and related federal regulations.

• Artifact Cataloguing: Apply advanced museum science methodologies to identify, inventory, and catalogue cultural artifacts discovered during construction activities.

 

• Heritage Materials Handling: Provide archaeological expertise in the proper handling and detailed documentation of human remains and cultural materials from both precontact and post-contact societies within project development zones.

• GIS/GPS Mapping: Create, edit, and maintain Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) maps for Sierra Forensic Consulting, Inc. projects, supporting archaeological consulting and heritage management objectives.

 

• Professional Expertise: Leverage practical professional experience and training to enhance project outcomes and ensure adherence to best practices in heritage management and cataloguing.

 

• Team Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate reporting and preservation of cultural resources, and contribute to developing internal protocols for artifact management and site evaluation.

Position Requirements

• Education: Master’s degree or higher in Heritage and Museum Science (with a concentration in Heritage Management).

• Experience: At least one year of professional experience in archaeological consulting, artifact cataloguing, and GIS/GPS mapping.

Terms of Employment

• Hours: 40 hours per week.

• Hourly Wage: $31.17 or higher per hour (equivalent to $64,834 or higher annually). • Location: On-site in the Sacramento/Colfax, California area (Northern California) with limited remote work as needed.
